Today, this observation is unfortunately not only valid, but the situation has worsened with the ongoing neoliberal globalisation, as the latter leaves very little, if any, room for maneuver for peoples to decide on their development policies. To deny this obvious fact is to deny hundreds of millions of human beings on this planet their most basic rights.
