An attempt to reinterpret the Declaration on the Right to Development

19/03/2001

COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS
57th session
19 March – 21 April 2001

[Excerpt from the statement]

CETIM is deeply disappointed by the position adopted by certain governments and the independent expert during the proceedings of the Working Group on the Right to Development. The right to development is a human right; it is inalienable and indivisible, and it is not negotiable. There is an interdependence between civil and political rights on the one hand and economic, social and cultural rights on the other, in accordance with the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action (1993).
