SUBCOMMITTEE ON THE PROMOTION AND PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS
56th session
26 July – 13 August 2004
[Excerpt from the statement]
Despite the declarations of good intentions by the leaders of transnational corporations in favour of good governance and ethical rules in business management, it is clear that their harmful practices have hardly changed. Human rights violations committed by transnational corporations, such as inhumane working conditions, child labour, failure to respect trade union rights, soil contamination, financial crime, fraud, accounting malpractice, corruption, illegal factory closures, blackmailing workers into relocation, etc., are common practices that greatly benefit these companies.
