PRESS RELEASE
VENEZUELA UNDER THE BOMBS: NO TO IMPERIALISM, SOLIDARITY WITH THE VENEZUELAN PEOPLE
Geneva, January 3, 2026
We — anti-imperialist organizations and social movements committed to internationalist solidarity and peace — condemn in the strongest possible terms the military attack launched by the United States against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the early hours of January 3, 2026. This aggression constitutes a grave and deliberate violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the right of peoples to self-determination.
After weeks of escalation, open threats, military provocations, and unilateral coercive actions, U.S. imperialism has crossed a new threshold by engaging in direct armed action against a sovereign state. The pretexts invoked — once again the alleged “fight against drug trafficking” — deceive no one. They serve as political and media cover for a war operation aimed at overthrowing a government that refuses to submit to Washington’s geopolitical and economic interests.
This attack is part of a global imperialist offensive, marked by the increasing use of military force to impose the law of the strongest and to preserve an international order in structural crisis. From Palestine to the Congo, from Asia to Latin America, imperialist powers multiply interventions and violations of international law in order to maintain their domination and secure access to strategic resources. Venezuela, which holds the largest oil reserves in the world, is a central target of this neo-colonial strategy.
The military aggression against Venezuela threatens not only the Venezuelan population, but the entire region. It aims to break regional integration processes, intimidate governments seeking to free themselves from U.S. tutelage, and strengthen reactionary, corrupt, and dependent local elites. It paves the way for widespread destabilization in Latin America and the Caribbean and constitutes a dangerous precedent for the international order.
Solidarity with the Venezuelan people, who for years have endured a multifaceted war — economic, financial, diplomatic, media-driven, and now military — as well as with all the peoples of Latin America who resist imperialist interference and struggle for their sovereignty, dignity, and self-determination.
Nothing can justify a unilateral military intervention, for which the United States bears full political, legal, and moral responsibility for the consequences of this war of aggression.
We demand:
the immediate and unconditional cessation of U.S. military aggression against Venezuela and the withdrawal of all foreign armed forces from its territory, airspace, and territorial waters;
respect for Venezuela’s sovereignty and for the right of the Venezuelan people to freely choose their political, economic, and social system, without external interference;
the immediate lifting of all illegal unilateral sanctions, which constitute a form of collective punishment and a crime under international law;
the urgent activation of the relevant mechanisms and bodies of the United Nations to put an end to this aggression, establish responsibilities, and ensure respect for the UN Charter;
a clear and public commitment by Switzerland not to participate in any way in this war of aggression, in particular by refusing to apply or relay U.S. and European unilateral sanctions, and by rejecting any military, security, or logistical cooperation.
In the face of this new imperialist war, silence and inaction amount to complicity. We call on social movements, trade unions, progressive political forces, and civil society as a whole to mobilize massively to demand the immediate end of the aggression and to defend international law, peace, and the self-determination of peoples. International mobilization is essential to stop the military escalation.
We also call for an urgent and immediate mobilization today at 5:00 p.m. in the Mont-Blanc pedestrian area in Geneva, to denounce the military aggression against Venezuela, express our solidarity with the Venezuelan people, and demand the immediate end of the imperialist war.
No to imperialist war! Solidarity with the Venezuelan people!
