HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION
Working Group on the Right to Development
3 February – 14 February 2003
[Excerpt from the statement]
The Working Group should prioritise monitoring the realisation of economic, social and cultural rights, given that civil and political rights are largely covered by mechanisms of the Human Rights Commission and treaty bodies. Although in recent years the Commission on Human Rights has made efforts to correct this imbalance by creating thematic mechanisms on economic, social and cultural rights, these efforts remain insufficient.
