Combating impunity for human rights violations

15/03/2004

COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS
60th session
15 March – 23 April 2004

[Excerpt from the declaration]

Impunity is a violation of the right to justice, the right to truth, the right to memory and the right to reparation. The fight against impunity is therefore of the utmost importance if we are to avoid the persistence of human rights violations. This fight must cover three aspects: the prevention of human rights violations, the punishment of the perpetrators of these violations and reparation for the damage caused to the victims.
