The United States on the fringes of legality

30/07/2003

SUBCOMMITTEE ON THE PROMOTION AND PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS
55th session
28 July – 15 August 2003

[Excerpt from the statement]

It must be noted that most of these acts, although they contravene the Charter and international law, have been ‘legalised’ by the Security Council. Thus, certain States are complicit with the United States, which systematically bypasses and manipulates the UN. At this point, should the international community not call on the United States to return from outside the law to the community of states governed by the rule of law and contribute to the promotion and respect of human rights?
