19/04/2023

A discussion on the experiences of migrant farm workers in Spain, Morocco and Switzerland

When? Geneva, Wednesday 3 May 2023, 19:00, UniMail, Room MR070

With Soumia Benelfatmi Elgarrab (from the Andalusian union SOC-SAT), Rachida Fathi (from the Moroccan union FNSA) and Philippe Sauvin (L’Autre Syndicat-Suisse). Moderation: Le Courrier

In the south of Spain, Moroccan seasonal workers are working in precarious conditions in the strawberry fields. Long working days, low wages, poor housing and sexual violence are just some of the key words. In recent years, the women workers have started to organise themselves. Today, the Union of Agricultural Workers of Southern Spain (SOC-SAT) and the organisation of Moroccan female agricultural workers (FNSA) are joining forces to obtain better working conditions in the strawberry fields.

At the event, a picker and a trade union activist will talk about the working conditions in the strawberry fields in Huelva and their cross-border fight for labour rights. A Swiss trade unionist will talk about the situation of migrant women agricultural workers in Geneva.

Organisation: SOLIFONDS and CETIM

Supporters: CUAE, L’Autre Syndicat, CGAS, Le Courrier, Voix Populaire
