Statements at the UN

Enjoying consultative status with the United Nations since 1981, the CETIM is able to present interventions to the United Nations human rights protection bodies (Human Rights Council and its subsidiary bodies, and treaty bodies) to submit cases of human rights violations and present proposals in terms of new international norms. These interventions can take the form of oral statements or written statements (case studies).

All statements presented by the CETIM to the United Nations are available in electronic format since 1993. They are ordered by year but you can also search by organ, session, theme or key-word.

Violations of collective human rights and environmental rights by the Chevron, Total and Shell oil companies in Argentine Patagonia
Human Rights Council

Since the discovery in late 2010 of one of the largest shale oil and gas deposits in the world, in the Vaca Muerta formation in Patagonia, in Argentina, serious inroads have been made into sensitive areas of the region. Operations carried out by transnational companies with links to State-controlled oil companies have triggered a range of impacts such as the violation of the rights of indigenous Mapuche communities, the displacement of farming productive activities, flouting of environmental law and numerous accidents and leaks.
