This booklet has been designed as an information and reflection material intended for the Working Group of the Sub-Commission on Human Rights of the United Nations. It is not limited to this framework and fits into a working process on the impact of transnational corporations (TNCs) on human rights.
In order to back the Working Group in its task, the Europe-Third World Centre, the American Association of Jurists and FICAT Catalunya decided to publish a booklet that contains various concrete examples of human rights violations by TNCs, from economic, social and cultural rights violations to violations of the right to development. Furthermore, it also contains a reflection on the responsibility of States and TNCs with regard to human rights, by analysing, among others, the question of “codes of conduct”.
The study introduced here focuses principally on “developing countries”, but not only, for these violations are obviously also present in countries of the North. They are nevertheless more systematic in Southern countries, where TNCs and State authorities have an increased easiness in making business out of fundamental human rights.
This booklet groups French, English and Spanish texts together.
